Deakin Week Sri Lanka 2025 (19th to 21st August), a biennial event hosted by Deakin University Australia, concluded on a high note recently, welcoming over 300 academic, industry and government leaders. The event functioned as a strategic platform to assert Deakin as a thought leader in Sri Lanka and to strengthen industry partnerships, demonstrate the university’s academic excellence, research innovation, and dedication to educational advancement in the country.
During Deakin Week Sri Lanka 2025, several key activities took place engaging diverse stakeholders including educators and academic professionals, school administrators, industry leaders and corporate representatives, institutional partners and prospective students and parents.
The week commenced with an Opening Ceremony on the 19th of August 2025 with senior representatives from Deakin University Australia and Sri Lankan partner institutions attending, celebrating ten years of successful partnership and innovation.
An impressive lineup of dynamic speakers contributed to the vibrant event. John Molony, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (International), Deakin International, Professor Nuwan Kodagoda, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Computing, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology and Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka on Digital Economy graced the occasion.
A highlight of the week was the Keynote Session on Artificial Intelligence, delivered by Dr. Bahareh Nakisa, Senior Lecturer in Applied AI and Course Director for Postgraduate Applied AI, Deakin University’s School of Information Technology. The session provided insights into the latest developments in AI technology and applications across various sectors.
The program also featured a Thought Leadership Panel Session titled ‘Future Ready: Embracing Technology for Tomorrow’s Challenges,’ which explored cutting-edge insights into artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and education reform.
Throughout the week, various forums explored employability trends, graduate outcomes, and the evolving expectations of industry, providing valuable insights for academic institutions and employers. Academic and industry-focused sessions offered expert-led discussions in multiple fields including Nursing, AI, Biomedicine, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, and Business, ensuring comprehensive coverage of key professional areas.
Interactive workshops also took place, specifically tailored to the diverse stakeholder groups in attendance. These sessions promoted professional development and facilitated knowledge exchange among participants from varied backgrounds and expertise levels.
The week provided extensive networking opportunities, allowing stakeholders to connect with Deakin faculty members, distinguished alumni, and leading industry professionals. These interactions were designed to strengthen existing alliances and build new partnerships to benefit Australian and Sri Lankan educational and business communities.
