China promises to help with school uniforms next year also

As it has been done for the previous three years, China will once more supply school uniform fabric next year, according to Deputy Education Minister Dr. Madura Seneviratne.

China contributed the entire amount of school uniform fabric needed for this year, valued at Rs. 5,171 million, as a testament to the long-lasting connection between China and Sri Lanka. A formal request for assistance in providing school uniform fabric for 2026 was made to the People’s Republic of China Embassy in Sri Lanka via the Department of External Resources.

The ministry has also begun the bidding procedure for the material’s acquisition, the deputy minister said.

In case the Chinese supplies are delayed, funds will be allocated in this year’s budget for the Education Ministry to obtain uniform materials, contingent on the gift.

According to the deputy minister, the ministry has also begun the bidding procedure for the material’s acquisition.

The Chinese government made a substantial contribution to our national school uniform fabric requirements in 2023 and 2024, and in 2025, their assistance allowed us to meet the full demand.
