A Special Deepavali Holiday for Tamil schools in the Central Province

A special holiday has been declared for all Tamil-medium schools in the Central Province (and also for Tamil-medium schools in the Uva Province) on Tuesday 21 October 2025, in view of the Deepavali festival which falls on Monday 20 October.

In the Central Province the decision was made by the Governor, Sarath Abeykoon.
The Deputy Director of Education, M Ganeshrajh, who supervises the management of the Nuwara Eliya Education Zone, requested this holiday, and Sundaralingam Pradeep, the Deputy Minister of Plantation Social Infrastructure, granted it.

However, principals have been instructed to conduct schools on Saturday 25 October to compensate for the extra holiday.
