Triple Gold Glory for SLTC at Aquaclash 2026

Sri Lanka Technology Campus continues to make waves in the national university sports arena, as one of its students recently delivered an exceptional performance at a major inter university swimming championship, bringing pride and recognition to the institution.

Navod Sebastian, an undergraduate of the BSc (Hons) Telecommunications Engineering programme, emerged as the standout athlete at the SLIIT Aquaclash Inter-University Swimming Championship 2026, organized by SLIIT and held at the SLIIT Aquatics Center. The championship saw participation from 13 universities and over 180 competitors, making his achievements even more remarkable.

Demonstrating extraordinary skill, discipline, and consistency, Navod secured first place in all three of his main events. He claimed victory in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 30.99 seconds, setting a new meet record. He continued his dominance in the 100m breaststroke, finishing first with another record-breaking time of 1:10.15. In the 200m breaststroke event, he once again secured first place with an impressive time of 2:42.56.

His outstanding performances across all breaststroke categories earned him the prestigious titles of Individual Champion, with a total of 30 points, and Best Breaststroker of the tournament. Notably, his two new meet records further solidified his position as one of the most promising university-level swimmers in the country.

Navod’s achievement is not just a personal milestone but also a reflection of SLTC’s growing excellence in sports. His victory highlights the university’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded students who excel both academically and in extracurricular activities.

Beyond his success in the pool, Navod has consistently demonstrated leadership and dedication. He served as the Vice President of the Sports Council of the year 2024/25 and is the Captain of the SLTC Swimming Team. His contributions to university sports have previously been recognized with University Colors and Special Awards in 2024, further showcasing his commitment to excellence.

Speaking about his journey, Navod emphasized the importance of perseverance and hard work. “No shortcuts. Just discipline and grind,” he stated, reflecting the mindset that has driven him to achieve success at such a competitive level. His victory serves as an inspiration to fellow students, proving that balancing academics with highlevel sports is not only possible but can lead to exceptional outcomes. It also reinforces the importance of dedication, time management, and resilience in achieving one’s goals.

The SLTC community has warmly celebrated this achievement, recognizing it as a proud moment for the university. Such accomplishments contribute significantly to enhancing the university’s reputation on national platforms and motivate other students to actively engage in sports and
extracurricular pursuits.

As SLTC continues to invest in sports development and student talent, achievements like Navod Sebastian’s victory at the SLIIT Aquaclash 2026 stand as a testament to the university’s vision of producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also capable of excelling on broader stages. With this remarkable performance, Navod has set a new benchmark for university swimmers and has undoubtedly positioned himself as a strong contender for future national and international
competitions.
