Study English Language and Literature at CINEC

The Bachelor of Arts in English program at CINEC Campus is designed to equip students with strong competencies in English language, literature, and teaching. Blending classical and contemporary knowledge, the course contains diverse modules such as grammar, linguistics, academic writing, world literature, and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). It also provides training in research methodology, ICT, and soft skills, making it a well-rounded program for aspiring educators, writers, communicators, and professionals in related fields.

What You’ll Study

This 3-4 year degree nurtures your love for language and literature while honing critical thinking and advanced writing skills. You’ll explore modules such as;

  • English language : grammar, phonetics, syntax, discourse analysis, translation, academic writing

  • Literature : Augustan, Romantic, Victorian, Postcolonial, Shakespeare, World Literature, Sri Lankan authors

  • TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) : teaching methods, curriculum design, testing, teaching practice

  • Value‑added skills : presentation, ICT, soft skills, research methodology

Duration

  • Full-time or part-time options

  • Classes are held on weekdays and weekends

  • Standard duration : 3 years (General BA); 4 years (Hons BA)

Entry Requirements

  • Passed local or London A/L with English Literature as a subject

  • Passed local A/L or London A/L in any stream with Entry Test

  • National Diploma holders of Teaching English

  • Diploma or a Certificate in English or teacher training recognized by the University Council

Students can pursue the General Degree (3 years) or the Honours Degree (4 years) through flexible full-time or part-time study modes, with a curriculum that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and confident communication.
