Schools to resume tomorrow for the second phase of the first term

Schools across Sri Lanka will reopen for the second phase of Term 1 of the 2026 academic year on January 21, 2026.

Following the reopening, an additional vacation period has been scheduled for Sinhala and Tamil medium schools from February 14 to March 2, 2026. Muslim schools will observe an extended vacation from February 14 to March 22, 2026, in accordance with their religious calendar.

The third phase of Term 1 for Sinhala and Tamil schools will commence on March 3, 2026, while Muslim schools are scheduled to resume classes for the same phase on March 23, 2026.

  • Term 1 (Second Phase) begins: 21 January 2026 (all schools)
  • Vacation – Sinhala & Tamil schools: 14 February 2026 to 2 March 2026
  • Vacation – Muslim schools: 14 February 2026 to 22 March 2026
  • Term 1 (Third Phase) begins:
    • Sinhala & Tamil schools: 3 March 2026
    • Muslim schools: 23 March 2026
