On loving memory of father of Golden Sons; R.I.T. Alles Sir

The 12th Commemoration Ceremony of the founder of our alma mater, D. S. Senanayake College, is scheduled to take place on the 27th of November 2025 at the college premises, with our proud alumnus, Senanayakian Aravinda de Silva, former member of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, gracing the occasion.

Born on 3rd October 1932 in Galle, Sir Ralph Ignatius Thomas Alles received his school education at St. Aloysius College, Galle, and St. Anthony’s College, Matara. He began his career as a school teacher and served at Royal College, Colombo for many years. Following an invitation from the then Minister of Education, Hon. I. M. R. A. Iriyagolla, and the Principal of Royal College at the time, he assumed duties as the Principal of the newly established D. S. Senanayake Junior School.

Through unwavering dedication and visionary leadership, he transformed the institution, laying the foundation for what is today recognized as D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo 7 one of the most respected schools in Sri Lanka’s education landscape. His extraordinary service to the nation did not end there. He continued to uplift Sri Lanka’s education system by founding Gateway College, further extending his legacy.

This great gentleman, whose name remains firmly etched in the educational history of Sri Lanka, passed away on 28th November 2013, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire, guide, and honour generations to come.
