University of Colombo Secures Top Spot Among Sri Lankan Universities in Global Rankings

The University of Colombo (UoC) has once again distinguished itself by emerging as the highest-ranked Sri Lankan university in the 2026 global university rankings. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, UoC is placed in the 1001-1200 band globally, but remains #1 in Sri Lanka.

In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2026, UoC maintains its lead in Sri Lanka, with a placement in the 1001-1200 band worldwide. THE’s ranking methodology considers five key “pillars”: Teaching (29.5 %), Research Environment (29 %), Research Quality (30 %), International Outlook (7.5 %) and Industry (4 %).

For prospective students (local or international), this ranking provides a helpful indicator of UoC’s academic and research standing. It also reflects the university’s ongoing efforts in teaching, research output, and institutional infrastructure.
