President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that Sri Lanka has initiated reforms to transition its education system toward a modern, skills based model while guaranteeing equal learning opportunities for all children.
Emphasising that race, religion, economic status or geographical background must never act as barriers to learning, the government is prioritising educational reforms designed to relieve the financial burden on parents and eliminate distress for students. In his message on International Children’s Day on October 1, he added that expanding educational scholarships and creating equitable access to quality instruction remain core objectives to ensure no child is left behind in the nation’s development process.
President Dissanayake stressed that ensuring the physical and mental well being of children is a primary governmental responsibility, as their imagination, aspirations and creativity will shape the nation’s future. He noted that the country built today must listen to children’s voices, accommodate their dreams and provide immediate opportunities for them to realise their full potential.
He reiterated that these comprehensive social and educational programmes aim to offer every child a safe environment for continuous personal development. (Eduwire)
