
The ceremony to launch the National Curriculum Framework for Early Childhood Education was held recently at the Ministry of Education under the patronage of the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
The launch aims to implement a uniform curriculum across different levels of early childhood education centres throughout the country and the disparities in early childhood education were also thus discussed.
This framework, prepared by the National Institute of Education, in alignment with the global guidelines to promote the wellbeing of children in early childhood, was released on the National Institute of Education’s Channel NIE website: channelnie.nie.ac.lk.

In line with the new educational reforms, the formulation of a National Policy on Preschool Education was also carried out with the collaboration of the National Education Commission, the National Institute of Education, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, the Health Promotion Bureau, the Family Health Bureau, The Open University of Sri Lanka, the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, and UNICEF Sri Lanka.
This policy is scheduled to be implemented from the year 2027.
A program to conduct a training of trainers will be held at Thulhiriya MAS Athena institute with the financial and technical support of UNICEF, Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, and the National Institute of Education.

Wickramasinghe, UNICEF Country Representative Emma Bringhan, Director General of the National Institute of Education, Prof. Manjula Withanapathirana, along with many other distinguished guests.
