
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has announced a new subject focusing on entrepreneurship and financial literacy will be introduced for Grade 6 students starting in 2027.
Making the announcement during an event in Colombo, Dr. Amarasuriya stated that under upcoming curriculum reforms, students from Grades 6 to 9 will receive instruction in entrepreneurship and financial literacy. As part of the initial phase, the new subject is scheduled to be introduced to all Grade 6 students across schools islandwide in 2027.
Dr. Amarasuriya also highlighted that programmes such as the Stock Market Game and School Capital Market Clubs have already been established to give students and youth early practical exposure to entrepreneurship and investment.
Emphasising the ethical dimensions of financial education, the Prime Minister stressed that young people should be taught that financial success should stem from responsible, ethical conduct rather than the exploitation or defrauding of others. (Eduwire)
