Measures underway to resolve teacher salary anomalies: PM

Appropriate measures are currently being taken through the Public Service Commission to resolve the salary anomalies of teachers and principals, Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced in Parliament.

She also mentioned that the salaries of all government employees will also be increased through the upcoming 2027 budget.

She made these remarks yesterday (8) during the “Questions for Oral Answer” session in Parliament, responding to questions raised by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Galle District MP Chanaka Madugoda.

During the session, MP Madugoda noted that the previous government appointed the “Subodhini Committee” to address salary anomalies affecting teachers and principals. He pointed out that while salaries were initially increased by one-third based on its recommendations, the remaining two-thirds have not yet been implemented and questioned whether this issue would be resolved through the proposed new Education Council.

Responding to these questions, the Prime Minister stated that salary increases have been incorporated into the budget to address salary related issues across all sectors of the public service, rather than being restricted solely to the teacher-principal service.

“The salaries of education service personnel have been increased beyond the recommendations made by the Subodhini Committee. Appropriate measures have been taken to resolve the salary anomalies existing in the teacher and principal services,” the Prime Minister said. (Eduwire)
