The Korean Volunteer Association for Distinguished Service to the State is organizing an 11-day programme for next year aimed at identifying and encourage the talents of children with special needs in Sri Lanka, as well as fostering creative skills and experience sharing between Sri Lankan and South Korean youth.
Plans for the initiative were discussed when a delegation headed by the President of the association Deokuju Jung met with Minister of Health and Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa at the ministry. The upcoming event is expected to feature participants from 16 countries, providing a platform for special needs children from both nations to display their musical and other talents, develop their capabilities and share mutual experiences.
During their visit to Sri Lanka, which began on October 7 and runs through October 13 the Korean delegation toured several local schools catering to children with special needs to better understand their specific requirements and abilities. This initiative is being conducted under the guidance of Ven. Wanawasi Rahula Thero, founder of the Namal Uyana National Sanctuary and Chief Incumbent of the Namal Uyana Forest Monastery.
Beyond the youth talent programme, the Korean delegation has agreed to support Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector by donating essential medical supplies to local hospitals. Furthermore, the association has carried out a community service project at the Namal Uyana sanctuary, distributing school supplies to over 1,500 children. (Eduwire)
