Colombo International Campus Opens Doors to Pearson BTEC and Global Qualifications

A bold new chapter in Sri Lanka’s higher education sector began with the soft launch of Colombo International Campus (CIC) an institution that promises to bring global learning to the doorstep of local students. Strategically located at the iconic former Lamborghini showroom building in Borella, Colombo, CIC is backed by the trusted leadership of Campus Direct (CDUK) long stablished pioneer in international student placement and transnational education.

The launch event was held in the presence of esteemed guests, industry stakeholders, and academic professionals. Chief Guest Ms. Jane Baker, Vice President at Pearson, delivered a keynote message lauding CIC’s commitment to quality, accessibility, and student well-eing.

She was joined by Mr. Suriya Bibile, Regional Manager – South East Asia, Pearson, and Dr. Achila Amarasinghe, who both expressed confidence in CIC’s ability to raise the bar in international standard higher education from Sri Lanka.

CIC is powered by the legacy and expertise of Campus Direct UK (CDUK) a company that has guided over 15,000 Sri Lankan students in securing admissions and visas to study at universities abroad. With over 200 direct institutional partnerships worldwide and 17+ years of experience in the education sector, CDUK has built a strong reputation for integrity, trust, and personalised guidance. Their network spans universities in the UK, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, and Europe, making them a trusted partner in turning academic aspirations into reality.

Building on this foundation, CIC has been launched to offer globally recognized qualifications locally, enabling students to begin their academic journeys in Sri Lanka and progress to international campuses with ease or complete their full degrees right here at home.

Mr. Amrith Weerasekera and Mr. Suresh Gunasekera, Founders and Directors of both Campus Direct and Colombo International Campus, shared their vision:

“CIC represents the next evolution of our commitment to education,” said Mr. Weerasekera. “We are not just offering programmes we’re offering a world-class student experience that blends global relevance with local support.”

“Our ultimate aim,” added Mr. Gunasekera, “is to position Sri Lanka as a regional hub for education. We want students from across South Asia to look at Colombo not just as a transit point but as a destination for globally aligned, high-quality education.”

CIC will offer programmes in collaboration with Pearson BTEC and other respected academic partners, with a strong focus on practical skills, career readiness, and academic excellence. Facilities include digitally enabled classrooms, student lounges, and a dedicated Student Success Centre designed to foster both academic and personal growth.

Dr Hemesiri Kotagama, Head of Academics, emphasized CIC’s academic direction: “We are curating an environment where quality is non-negotiable. Our teaching model incorporates international academic benchmarks, critical thinking, and real-world application.”

Tharsan Sivapatham, Head of Sales and Marketing at CIC, echoed the enthusiasm: “We’re seeing incredible interest from students and parents alike. What excites people most is that we offer global qualifications, structured progression, and a highly student-focused atmosphere all from a campus that’s in the heart of Colombo.” As Colombo International Campus begins its journey, the team extends a warm invitation to students and parents to visit the new campus and explore their opportunities.
