In a festive celebration that resonated with the spirit of the season, the Chamber Choir of Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) marked the culmination of their annual Christmas carol service on the 15th of December 2023. This enchanting evening, meticulously organized by the students themselves, showcased a seamless blend of musical prowess, heartfelt performances, and a touch of entrepreneurial flair.
From the meticulous selection of melodies to the intensive training sessions and the enchanting venue decorations, every aspect of the event bore the unmistakable imprint of student-driven dedication. The primary objective of the carol service was to extend the joyous ambiance of the season to the community at large. Notably, the choir comprised students of diverse faiths, underscoring the uniting power of music in fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
The repertoire for the evening featured timeless classics such as “Once in Royal David’s City” and “O Come All Ye Faithful,” alongside more intricate renditions like “All Bells in Paradise” and “God Rest Ye.” The varied selection showcased the choir’s versatility and commitment to delivering an unforgettable musical experience. Adding depth to the melodic journey, the service seamlessly incorporated traditional Bible readings, intricately woven into the fabric of the season, adding a spiritual dimension to the overall celebration.
Further adding to the festive atmosphere, the event also featured a Christmas market named “Winter Wonderland,” a collaborative effort between the Christian Society and the Entrepreneurs Club of RIC. This initiative not only provided a charming backdrop for the festivities but also demonstrated the students’ entrepreneurial spirit in action.
The Chamber Choir, initially formed in 2021 by a group of students united by their love for music, has since grown both in talent and membership. Their journey marked by a commitment to learning and growth, eventually led to them earning the distinction of being the official choir of Royal Institute of Colombo.
As the echoes of the Christmas carols linger in the air, the Chamber Choir of RIC extends a warm invitation to the community to stay tuned and be part of their continuing musical odyssey.
