India Offers 10 Scholarships to Sri Lankan Students

The Government of India is providing Sri Lankan students with a range of scholarships in various fields as part of its ongoing efforts to improve educational relations and promote regional development. These scholarships are intended to assist students who wish to pursue professional courses in India as well as undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate studies.

The list of scholarships is as follows :

1. Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme :

  • 120 annual scholarships for higher studies in India, covering various disciplines

2. Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme :

  • 25 scholarships for IT/BE/B Tech studies in top-ranked Indian institutes

3. Study in India Program :

  • 100,000+ Seats and tuition fee waivers for Sri Lankan students in 160+ premier institutes

4. Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme :

  • 5 ICCR scholarships UG, PG and for PhD courses

5. Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship :

  • 150 scholarships to Sri Lankan students chosen on basis of performance in O’ Level examination and merit-cum-means criteria. Selected scholars receive financial assistance to complete A’level studies

6. Ceylon Estate Workers Education Trust (CEWET) :

  • 350 scholarships to Sri Lankan students pursuing A/L and University studies. Stipend for A/L students for two years or until completion of studies, and for University students until graduation

7. Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme :

  • 50 scholarships for Masters Level Courses, with preference given to Agriculture MSc, and M Tech

8. Highly Subsidized Self-Financed Slots :

  • 1 to 2 slots for Sal Lankan students in reputed government institutions for Undergraduate courses in MBBS, (B.Pharm.), etc. under self-financing arrangements.

9. Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) :

  • 75% coverage of Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) up to US$ 4,000 per annum for Undergraduate scholarships to NRIs/PIOs/OCIs in Sri Lanka and globally

10. AYUSH Scholarships :

  • About 10-12 scholarships are offered every year to study in the fields of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha and Unani leading to Undergraduate, Masters and Research degrees.

The ultimate goal of these programs that have a long history of fostering educational collaboration is to enable the upcoming generation of Sri Lankan researchers, scholars, and professionals by giving them access to top-notch universities and a wide range of educational possibilities.
