St. Benedict’s College Launches Modern STEM Centre to Foster 21st-Century Learning

St. Benedict’s College, Colombo recently opened a modern STEM Centre as part of its shift toward 21st‑century learning. The new facility is intended to integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands‑on, practical experiences rather than the traditional curriculum.

The centre offers students opportunities to work with robotics, coding, 3D design and printing, drone‑technology and other digital tools. This allows learners to explore and apply contemporary technologies in creative and problem‑solving projects.

The introduction of the STEM programme reflects the school’s aim to prepare students for a world increasingly driven by technology and innovation. By doing so, the college hopes to develop skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and technological literacy among its students.

Plans are in place to expand the initiative, in 2026 the programme is expected to extend to higher grades, offering advanced areas like electronics, animation, film editing and game development. The school also emphasises teacher training to support this educational shift.

Overall, this new STEM Centre marks a milestone in the school’s history, positioning St. Benedict’s College as a forerunner among Sri Lankan schools adopting modern, skills‑based education rather than traditional rote learning.
