State universities in Sri Lanka are facing a severe crisis due to an acute shortage of human resources, inadequate infrastructure facilities, Eastern University Teachers’ Association President M. Ravi stated.

Addressing a press conference held at the Batticaloa Media Club alongside Vice President K. Balachandran, Secretary Ravikumar and Executive Committee Member Santharupan, Ravi noted that the association had previously held discussions with the government on several occasions, but received no positive response to their demands. 

He added that as a result, the association has been carrying out various trade union actions.

Ravi stated that a “Black Week” was declared two weeks ago to express their dissatisfaction. The association has now declared the current week as a public awareness week to inform the public about the challenges confronting state universities, including the lecturer shortage and lack of internal facilities. Ravi explained that the press conference was organized as part of the initiative assigned to Eastern University to create public awareness about the ongoing crisis in the university system. (Eduwire)
