The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to renew the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sri Lanka’s Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) and the Philippines based Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC).
The resolution was submitted by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.
The initial five-year agreement between the two institutions focused on advancing accreditation and certification standards within Sri Lanka’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. Following the expiration of the original term, the new agreement aims to maintain and expand regional technical cooperation.
Under the renewed framework, Sri Lanka will receive technical assistance from APACC to refine training quality, secure international accreditation for domestic vocational institutes, and reinforce the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) Framework.
Additionally, the MoU provides for the appointment of a National Coordinator for Accreditation in Sri Lanka and sets up mechanisms to identify and train local accreditors under APACC standards. (Eduwire)
