Four members of the Gateway College Colombo Scrabble team participated in the Asia Cup Youth Scrabble Championship held in New Delhi earlier this month. The tournament featured competition amongst some of the best youth players from several countries across Asia, and consisted of 24 games.
Adheesha Dissanayake (15) emerged Overall Champion, winning 19 matches and maintaining a high ranking over the entire course of the tournament. Earlier this year, Adheesha became the second runner up at the World Youth Scrabble Championship, and is the reigning Junior National Champion.
Along with Adheesha, Inam Irshad (11) was a member of the national team that represented Sri Lanka at this event. Placing 4th overall, Inam was awarded the title of Champion in the Under 12 category. He had previously won the title of Under 12 World Champion earlier this year at the World Youth Scrabble Championship.
Imad Irshad (15) and Dulain Wanigasekara (12) also competed at the event, placing 13th and 23rd respectively. Imad was honored as an Emerging Scrabbler while Dulain was named a Rising Star.
