University of Jaffna commences 41st General Convocation across nine sessions 

The 41st General Convocation of the University of Jaffna commenced grandly at the University Indoor Stadium on October 6 led by the Chancellor of the University, Emeritus Professor R. Kumaravadivel.

The multi-day convocation ceremony is scheduled to run for three days from October 6 to October 8, 2026 across nine sessions.

The proceedings opened with a ceremonial procession featuring graduates, university officials, lecturers, professors, deans, the librarian, bursar and registrar. Accompanied by traditional Thavil and Nadaswaram music, Vice Chancellor Senior Professor T. Velnambi and Chancellor Emeritus Professor R. Kumaravadivel were escorted into the hall alongside the official flag, ceremonial umbrella and alavattam.

Before thousands of attendees including university professors, council members and distinguished guests the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor conferred degrees, diplomas, prizes and scholarships, alongside presenting gold medals to high-achieving students. (Eduwire)
