
Education officials at the provincial and zonal levels have been briefed on proposed education reforms and the new National Curriculum Framework during an awareness programme held at the Ministry of Education premises. Prepared by the National Institute of Education under the direction of the National Education Commission, the framework will be made available to officials for reference once approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Under the proposed framework, the school day will run from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with individual class periods limited to 40 minutes. Officials were informed of proposed changes to the assessment system, the planned number of G.C.E. Ordinary Level subjects including History and Aesthetic Studies and new vocational subjects for Grades 10 and 11. For Grades 12 and 13, briefings covered newly introduced subject areas such as social cohesion, law and ethics, career guidance and foreign languages.
The briefing also provided updates on school infrastructure upgrades, digital equipment development projects and provincial level teacher training initiatives. Additionally, progress was shared regarding the preparation and distribution of educational modules as preparations continue toward implementing the reforms in 2027.(Eduwire)
