D. S. Senanayake College Marks 59 Years, Reaffirms ‘Country Before Self’ Legacy

“Country Before Self”, an immortal slogan entrenched in the heartbeats of every Senanayakian, stands as the guiding principle of D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo. With its pillars of love, respect and discipline, D. S. Senanayake College remains steadfast in its mission to mould generations who serve not just themselves, but the nation. Formally established in 1967 under the visionary leadership of founding principal Mr. R. I. T. Alles, Mother DS has, over the years, produced a multitude of distinguished professionals in diverse fields across the globe.

As D. S. Senanayake College proudly marks its 59th anniversary on 10th February 2026, its true distinction lies not only in its rapid emergence as one of Sri Lanka’s foremost educational institutions, but also the sense of strong brotherhood inculcated in us by Mother Senanayake.

Indeed, D. S. Senanayake College is an epitome of brotherhood, one which finds this solemn identity in action. In 2006, the Old Boys’ Association initiated a medical clinic dedicated to the well-being of retired teachers of DSSC, a service conducted entirely by doctors who themselves were students once sat in the very classrooms they now honour. Having commenced for its twentieth consecutive year, this initiative stands as a living testament to never-ending gratitude, loyalty, and lifelong connection of Senanayakians toward their alma mater.

This year, driven by the aim of reflecting upon countless memories and milestones of success by generations of Senanayakian alumni, the Old Boys’ Association of D. S. Senanayake College prepares to host the annual “Back to School” on 7th February 2026, reimagined this year through its fusion with “Back to Sports Meet”, a bold promise to an experience never before witnessed in a school setting.

Looking toward the future, a proposal initiated by the school’s Media Circle has led to plans for a multi-purpose auditorium, jointly undertaken by the Old Boys’ Association and the Old Senanayakians’ Media Circle. Designed not only to enhance school activities but also to generate sustainable income through rentals and digital media ventures, this project reflects the school’s progressive vision.

These dedicated endeavours affirm one enduring truth: all Senanayakians remain bound by a brotherhood that time cannot erode. Mother DS continues to nurture individuals who think beyond self-interest, live in harmony, and transform aspiration into achievement, offering the nation citizens shaped by unity, compassion, and purpose.
