Convent of Our Lady of Victories Holds Annual Inter-House Sportsmeet 2026

A Celebration of Unity, Strength, and Sporting Excellence

The Annual Inter-House Sportsmeet 2026 of Convent of Our Lady of Victories, Moratuwa
was held on 7th February 2026 at St. Sebastian’s College Grounds, Moratuwa. Organized
under the inspiring theme “UNITED WE PLAY, UNITED WE RISE!”, the event echoed the
national vision of Rebuild Sri Lanka, emphasising unity, teamwork, and resilience among the young generation.

The ceremony became especially significant with the presence of the newly appointed
Principal, Rev. Sr. Umeshika Gayani, who was warmly welcomed by the Prefect of Games,
Mrs Rasika Rodrigo, along with the enthusiastic members of the Sports Club. The Chief
Guest, Mrs Nimshi Cooray, a distinguished past pupil of the school, was ceremonially
escorted by the Eastern Band together with the tutorial staff, adding colour and dignity to the
occasion. A globally accomplished professional, Mrs Cooray currently serves as a Senior
Meta Marketing Advisor at Concentrix GmbH, Germany, leading Meta marketing strategies
across the UK and Ireland, and her inspiring journey set an example for the students.
The hoisting of the house and school flags marked the commencement of the opening
ceremony, followed by the recitation of the school motto and house mottos. The lighting of
the Olympic torch by the Games Captains of 2025 and 2026 symbolised the true spirit of
sportsmanship. A vibrant welcome dance, highlighting Rebuild Sri Lanka, added artistic
brilliance to the event.

Thrilling athletic events, including sprint finals, relays, and class relays, kept the audience
captivated throughout the day. A mesmerizing drill display and a Western Band display added
more splendour to the event. After an impressive march past and inspiring addresses by the
Principal and the Chief Guest, the prize distribution was held. Miss. Prarthana Mendis of St.
Lucy House was awarded the Best Athlete of the Year 2026, while St. Lucy House emerged
Overall Champions. The sportsmeet concluded on a patriotic note with the lowering of flags,
the school anthem, and the national anthem, leaving behind lasting memories of unity and
excellence.
