NSBM offers the BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science as a four-year full-time degree, recognized by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Higher Education and the UGC. This carefully designed program refreshes fundamental concepts in human biology, pathology, biochemistry, and microbiology. It progresses through advanced themes like molecular pharmacology, genomic medicine, nanobiotechnology, and cancer diagnostics. In the final year, students undertake a full-scale research project—an invaluable preparation for both academic and professional futures.
A rising highlight of this program is its blend of academia and real-world exposure. Lectures are conducted by NSBM’s local faculty, and supplemented by visiting lecturers from the University of Plymouth, UK, letting students benefit from global expertise without having to travel abroad. Plus, with an internship built into the curriculum, students gain hands-on experience in labs and healthcare environments, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Note : Candidates with impressive results at a foreign examination held outside Sri Lanka, deemed equivalent to G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination of Sri Lanka are eligible to apply for admission to universities in Sri Lanka.
Graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science at NSBM step into a world of diverse opportunities where science meets healthcare and innovation. With strong laboratory training, research exposure, and international-standard learning, they are well-prepared to work as clinical laboratory scientists, research associates, or healthcare professionals in hospitals, diagnostic centers, and public health organizations. The degree also opens pathways into the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, where graduates contribute to drug development, clinical trials, and medical technology.
Beyond immediate employment, this qualification provides a solid foundation for postgraduate studies, enabling graduates to specialize in fields such as molecular biology, genetics, cancer research, or immunology. For those passionate about teaching and knowledge-sharing, academia becomes a rewarding avenue. Since biomedical science is a globally recognized discipline, NSBM graduates are not confined to Sri Lanka—they can pursue careers and further studies in the UK, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and beyond.
