Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN)is the island nation’s premier simulation of the United Nations, bringing together approximately a thousand passionate youth delegates each year. The delegates of Gateway College came away with an impressive record across every committee, securing an impressive 33 awards, the highest for any institution.

In the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), operating as two delegations, Gateway College demonstrated exceptional strength with Manhal Mauroof, Bilal Fazal, Shayan Amarasinghe and Deron Perera receiving Honorable Mention Awards. Venuk Singhapura and Aabidh Shifaz further strengthened Gateway’s performance by securing Higher Commendations. Lishelle Vijayakumar and Yuradha Dasanayaka capped off the committee’s success by securing the Best Working Paper award.

In the World Health Assembly (WHA),Risath Sathnindu, Oshan De Silva, Madhi Muhammed and Nethula Samarasinghe earned Honorary Mention Awards. Mattheesha Bandara and Matthew Rodrigo received Higher Commendations. Dihas Nanayakkara and Mahima Hettiarachchi were recognized with the Best Working Paper award. The dynamic duo of Siddesh Ram Shankar and Anas Assaf delivered an outstanding performance in health-policy debate, clinching the prestigious Best Delegate award.

Gateway College continued its strong showing across security, legal, and diplomatic forums. In the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Selvendra  Jathuran earned a Higher Commendation for tackling complex global security challenges. Dhanuka Wijegoonaratne won the prestigious Best Delegate Award, following his impressive performance in one of the conference’s most demanding committees.

In the Arab League (AL), Muhammad Luqmaan received a Higher Commendation, demonstrating strong diplomatic engagement in addressing challenges facing the Middle East. Dulain Wanigasekara secured the Best Delegate award, showcasing strong legal reasoning, diplomacy, and an ability to develop consensus-driven solutions.

The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) committee also saw several standout performances. Vethum Singhapura received an Honorary Mention, while Sanuka Opatha achieved both High Commendation and Best Working Paper. Rumika Perera delivered an exceptional individual performance, clinching the coveted Best Delegate award.

Gateway’s achievements extended further across specialized assemblies, organizations, and economic councils. Aiden Thomas secured the Best Delegate Award in the European Union Council (EUCO), demonstrating exceptional diplomacy, negotiation, and committee engagement.

In the National Youth Assembly (NYA), Dinara Nandasena received and Prabagar Deesitan earned Honorary Mentions. Nithin Sridhar secured the Best Delegate award, adding another major achievement to Gateway’s growing list of accolades.

In the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Sarith Perera was awarded an Honorary Mention, while Yoonus Ashraff received a Higher Commendation for demonstrating precision and effective engagement in a high-stakes committee.

In the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly (GA5), Mahiru Karunanayaka secured an Honorary Mention, while Losara Kulatunge received a Higher Commendation.

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) also produced notable results for Gateway College. Kimath Wickramasinghe received an Honorary Mention. Navakarthikeyan Satgunaraja earned a Higher Commendation for his insightful economic contributions. Shaviru Kasthuriarachchi secured the Best Delegate award, adding yet another major accolade to Gateway College’s outstanding overall performance.

The International Press Corps (IPC) further showcased Gateway College’s strength beyond traditional committee debate, with several students receiving notable recognition for their work in journalism and media. Tharini Fernando earned an Honorary Mention and Thisal Kumarasiri and Aisha Risvi each received Higher Commendations. Yashod Mohottiarachchi was awarded Best Journalist, and Ruhee Rajudin and Tamashi Seneviratne were recognized with the prestigious Best Agency award, highlighting Gateway’s ability to excel across the diverse dimensions of Model United Nations.

The outstanding achievements of Gateway College at SLMUN 2026 would not have been possible if not for the guidance and commitment provided by the school’s MUN leadership team, consisting of Principal Mr. Anthony Chelliah of Gateway College Dehiwala, Mrs. Nishotha Anuraj, Deputy Principal of Gateway College Colombo, and Mrs. Ruwini Perera, Assistant Principal of Gateway College Negombo, alongside the Teacher-in-Charge of Gateway College Colombo, Mr. Vinura Abeysekera. Their immense support continues to pave a pathway for Gateway’s MUNers to maintain the exemplary standards set by generations before them and dominate in the arena of Model United Nations.
