At Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS), leadership is not just a concept taught in classrooms it is a value embedded in every aspect of student life. On the 17th of July, the new NCHS Student Council was officially appointed, marking another exciting chapter in the college’s mission to develop confident, capable leaders for tomorrow.
While NCHS is renowned for offering globally recognised pathways in higher education, it also offers students a dynamic campus culture where they are encouraged to grow not just academically, but personally. Through meaningful opportunities like the Student Council, students are guided to explore their voice, develop their skills, and lead with purpose.
A TEAM THAT REPRESENTS THE HEART OF THE STUDENT BODY
This year’s Student Council is a diverse and talented group of young leaders, chosen for their enthusiasm, commitment, and vision for a better student experience. Leading the council is Demika Samaranayake, appointed as President. With a clear goal to strengthen the connection between students and leadership, Demika shares,
“My vision is to build a stronger bridge between students and leadership where every voice is heard, every idea is valued, and every student feels empowered. Together, we will create a legacy of unity, progress, and lasting impact.”
He is supported by an equally passionate team, including Sinali Suwinya (Vice President), Aseni Ruwanpathirana (Secretary), Pasan Jayarathna (Assistant Secretary), Shanchaya Vitharana (Treasurer), Achintha De Silva (Assistant Treasurer), and Mahesh Madusanka (Editor). The council also includes Chaniru Rajapaksha as Event Coordinator and Committee Members Chenul Venitha, Liron Roshain, Pasindu Dananjala, and Tevin Gamage each bringing their own unique strengths and perspectives to the table.
ACTION FROM DAY ONE
Wasting no time, the newly appointed council launched their very first event The NCHS Premier League on the 26th of July. With roaring student participation and palpable energy on campus, the event was a clear success and a sign of things to come. The council already has an exciting line-up of activities that aim to enhance student engagement and create a more vibrant college life for all.
In the months ahead, the council will work closely with faculty and fellow students to organise events, initiate student-led projects, and ensure that student voices remain at the centre of campus decision-making.
LEADERSHIP BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Being part of the Student Council is more than a title it is a journey that offers students real-world leadership experience, collaborative teamwork, and personal growth. It equips them with soft skills, confidence, and the courage to take initiative qualities that will serve them well in their academic journey and future careers.
At NCHS, students are not just preparing for university they are preparing for life.
