Gateway Under 14 Boys and Girls Crowned Colombo District FootballChampions

Gateway College celebrated a remarkable double triumph as both the Under 14 Boys’ and Girls’
teams emerged Colombo District Football Champions, capping an outstanding tournament with
unbeaten runs and qualification for the prestigious All Island stage.

The Gateway Girls set the tone early with commanding group-stage performances, recording
emphatic victories over Vishaka Vidyalaya (3–0) and Mahinda Rajapaksa College (2–0) to top their
group with authority. Their momentum carried seamlessly into the knockout rounds, where they
edged past Maduluwave Sobitha Himi Vidyalaya (1–0) before producing a composed 2–0 win against
Stafford International School to seal the district title and advance to the All-Island Tournament.

The Under 14 Boys displayed grit and growing dominance throughout their campaign. After opening
with a hard-fought 0–0 draw against the S. Thomas’ College A team, Gateway surged forward with
an emphatic 8–0 victory over Mahinda Rajapaksa College and a solid 3–0 triumph against Piliyandala
Central. Narrow but resolute 1–0 wins over Lyceum Nugegoda and St. Peter’s College underlined the
team’s resilience and defensive discipline.

The final against Zahira College proved to be a thrilling, fast-paced encounter. Gateway’s boys
applied sustained pressure and controlled proceedings, but fading light forced the match to be
called off at halftime. As a result, both teams were declared joint champions—an outcome that
reflected the intensity and quality of the contest.

With both Under 14 Boys’ and Girls’ teams remaining unbeaten and crowned Colombo District
Champions, Gateway College now advances confidently to the All Island Tournament, reinforcing the
school’s growing reputation for excellence in football across both boys’ and girls’ competitions.
