
A special discussion was presided by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and relevant officials with representatives of teacher and principal trade unions to address the existing issues regarding the recruitment of education graduates into the Sri Lanka Teacher Service through amendments to the new Service Minute.
The discussion took place on October 2 at the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education located in Isurupaya.
During the meeting, the proposed amendments to the new Service Minute for these recruitments were examined in detail.
Accordingly, the process of implementing the Service Minute amendments was discussed with the attending teacher and principal union representatives, giving special attention to the guidelines of the Public Service Commission and the rulings delivered by the court on the matter. Furthermore, the Prime Minister noted that following these Service Minute amendments, measures can be taken to recruit the respective education graduates into the teaching service.
Expressing further views, the Prime Minister explained the steps taken by the government to establish a Professional Teaching Council aimed at enhancing the professionalism of six services, including teacher training and the development of colleges of education, as well as the teacher and principal services.
Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madura Seneviratne, representatives of teacher and principal trade unions and several officials from the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education were present at the event. (Eduwire)
