The Sri Lanka Deaf Graduates Association (SLDGA) held its inaugural get-together on Aug. 9, at the Ramadia Ranmal Resort Holiday in Moratuwa, bringing together about 40 deaf graduates for an event focused on fellowship, networking and strengthening the association.

The gathering marked the first major event organised by the SLDGA since its establishment and provided an opportunity for deaf graduates from different backgrounds to meet, build connections and celebrate their shared achievements.

The event was supported by Prof. Tissa Peiris and Prof. Nishani McClusky, who are based in the United States, as the main sponsors.

Member of Parliament Sugath Wasantha de Silva attended the event as the special guest. Thilini Jayawardena, founder of United Signs Global (USG), supported the organisers in inviting the MP to the event and also contributed towards its sponsorship.

Brian Susantha, president of the Sri Lanka Central Federation of the Deaf (SLCFD), also attended the gathering.

The organisers said the event represented an important first step for the SLDGA in creating a stronger network among deaf graduates and providing a platform for members to connect and support one another.

The association also expressed appreciation to its executive committee members for their efforts in organising the event, as well as to the invited guests, sponsors and graduates who contributed to the success of the inaugural gathering.

The SLDGA said it hopes the initiative will serve as a foundation for future programmes aimed at strengthening opportunities, connections and engagement among deaf graduates in Sri Lanka.
